We are delighted to welcome another new Supporter to the North East 250.  We have some beautiful estates in this region that are open to visitors and have various attractions on offer.  Leys Estate is one of those that has created a welcoming and charming destination surrounded by stunning scenery.

Leys Estate at Crathes, on the A93 between Aberdeen and Balmoral, marking the gateway to Royal Deeside and to the NE250 route. Steeped in history and home to the Burnett family since 1323, the estate today brings together heritage, landscape and a range of leisure, cultural and tourism experiences that reflect both its past and its present.

At the heart of the estate lies Milton of Crathes, a picturesque destination opposite Crathes Castle and set on the banks of the River Dee. Once a working farm, its traditional stone buildings have been carefully repurposed into a vibrant courtyard of businesses, including a restaurant, gallery, and specialist shops.

The site hosts regular Farmers’ Markets and is also home to the Royal Deeside Railway, offering visitors the chance to experience a heritage steam journey along the River Dee. With free parking, direct access to the Deeside Way and close links to Crathes Castle Estate and the neighbouring events field, Milton of Crathes provides a natural stopping point for visitors exploring the region.

At the centre of the Milton of Crathes is the Milton Art Gallery,  which showcases a changing programme of work by some of Scotland’s finest artists and makers, alongside a wide range of prints, sculpture, ceramics, jewellery, furniture, and gifts.

The Estate is also home to another visitor destination, Inchmarlo Golf Centre, located just west of Banchory. The centre is open to members and non-members alike, offering an accessible way to experience golf in Royal Deeside, with a welcoming 9-hole course and a fully covered, floodlit driving range featuring Toptracer Range technology.

Together, these destinations reflect Leys Estate’s commitment to creating high-quality, welcoming experiences for both local communities and visitors to the north-east.
